About the role

This is a meaningful and vital part-time position where you positively impact the lives of our residents, visitors, and fellow team members every day. The primary purpose of your role is to prepare food for residents, visitors, and other personnel. You will assist in the instruction and supervision of food service employees concerned with food preparation, ensuring the highest degree of quality care is provided to our residents at all times. This role requires availability for both early morning and evening shifts, as well as weekends.

Responsibilities

• Plan cooking schedule so that the finished product reaches the consumer at peak quality.
• Prepare meat and main dishes, vegetables, soups, gravies, hot breakfast items, and hot beverages.
• Prepare all diet modifications necessary and ensure residents receive foods appropriate to their needs and diet orders.
• Assemble all ingredients and complete all pre-preparation (trimming, icing, washing, portioning, adjusting temperature controls) before advancing to final preparation (mixing, blending, cooking, etc.).
• Apportion servings in accordance with yield specified on standardized recipes and modified diet extension spreadsheets.
• Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor.

Requirements

• Prefer three (3) months of supervised training and six months of experience in quantity food service.
• Must be thoroughly familiar with foods and preparation methods.
• Must know proper methods and cooking temperatures for best utilization in yield of meats and other foods.
• Must understand how to time cooking of vegetables so that their nutritional quality, flavor, and appearance are preserved.
• Must have knowledge of and an appreciation for principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.

Pay

Compensation is $20.50 - $21.50 per hour based on experience.
