Limited Term - Senior Planner

About the role

The City of Shoreline’s Planning and Community Development Department seeks a talented and innovative Limited Term Senior Planner to help implement the City’s newly adopted Comprehensive Plan and prepare for future updates to the Plan. This position works under the general supervision of the Planning Manager.

Responsibilities

• Works on long-range planning projects, including development code updates, applying for countywide center status, preparing for the climate element of the comprehensive plan, and updating the Shoreline Master Program.
• Interacts with elected and appointed officials and the community on various planning initiatives.
• Supports the City’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and becoming an actively anti-racist city.
• Collaborates with partners in other departments such as Parks, Public Works, and Community Services.
• Manages and reviews complex land use applications, conducts environmental review, and provides customer service.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible planning experience.
• Experience with local governmental agencies and project management.

• Ability to interpret, apply, and draft development codes.
• Experience with policy analysis and code writing.

Pay

Salary range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

This is a limited term position with a current end date of 12/31/2026 that will be extended to 12/31/2028, pending City Council’s approval and funding.
