Limited Duration, Specialist in Middle School Math Education

About the Role

Provide quality professional development, coaching, and consultant services to assist Lane County districts in improving student achievement in middle school mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and promote professional development programs and consultant services targeting improvement of math instruction and student achievement in middle school mathematics, aligned with Lane STEM Hub project goals.
• Provide technical assistance in curriculum, instruction, and assessment in mathematics for participating districts.
• Develop, coordinate, and promote the data collection plan for the project in alignment with project goals.
• Manage and administer budgets and activities related to assigned grants, including reporting requirements.
• Assist in the development of grant opportunities, applications, and/or reports as assigned.
• Act as liaison with appropriate school districts, county, state, and nonprofit organizations.
• Utilize appropriate software as established for agency use, as well as other computer software programs relevant to the assignment.
• Submit program reports as required.
• Attend staff, planning, and committee meetings as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Oregon teaching license with endorsement in Mathematics.
• Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in mathematics.
• Demonstrated leadership in math instruction and program development.
• Minimum two years of successful experience developing and delivering staff development and training to adult learners, or demonstrated leadership in math instruction and program development.
• Demonstrated knowledge of data and assessment systems, including the ability to evaluate for standards alignment, data team usage, and formative assessment purposes.
• Demonstrated ability to make formal presentations, facilitate diverse groups, solicit input, and synthesize and summarize information.
• Demonstrated ability to use technology as a tool in daily work and as an educational resource.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Valid Oregon Driver’s License.
• Ability to meet the physical and mental requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
• Follow all District work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority.
• Perform program responsibilities in accordance with statutes, administrative rules, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.

Physical Demands

• Minimal physical exertion; normally standing, walking, or sitting as required.
• Periodic light lifting of materials/supplies up to 20 lbs when transitioning between sites.

Working Conditions

• Generally works in an indoor, clean, non-hazardous environment.
• Itinerant position requiring travel between multiple work sites.
• May encounter inclement weather during site visits, field trips, or community activities.

School Improvement Services focuses on improving achievement for all students within our community by providing high-quality professional development, technical assistance, and instructional-based support for educators in 16 Lane County School Districts. Services are provided to educators at all levels from kindergarten through graduation, in all core content areas, and can be designed to meet collective or individual district needs.
