About the role

This is an unarmed law enforcement position (Title 33 Commission). Limited Commission Ranger positions involve extensive customer service and public contact while enforcing Colorado Parks and Wildlife laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Trinidad Port of Entry near Trinidad, Colorado.
  • Site lead boat inspector will be responsible for providing on the job training to inspection staff, creating schedules and making sure all shifts are covered during operational hours, verify accurate time keeping records for payroll purposes, and recommend hiring/firing of employees to Invasive Species Specialist.
  • Ensure inspection station staff are following standardized protocols by performing quality control assessments on a monthly basis, ensure that data entry is being performed accurately and completely by all inspection station staff, maintain inventory of all required supplies, perform basic maintenance & troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit, and provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
  • Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required. As a Limited Commission Ranger, duties may include, but are not limited to: Enforce Colorado Parks and Wildlife rules and regulations and issue citations for violations. Resolve visitor complaints and conflicts. Complete reports and may be required to appear in court. Answer questions regarding aquatic invasive species. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a current & valid driver's license required for operating a state vehicle and acceptable driving record (will be verified as part of comprehensive background check process).
  • Must attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training (may include full exposure to OC spray).
  • Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite).
