About the role

This is the entry-level position within the series. Incumbents assist certified teachers with classroom activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teacher with classroom instruction and works with children during instructional activities.
  • Monitors children’s behavior inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Assists with clean-up and related tasks following daily activities.
  • Prepares classroom for activities, including organizing assignments and preparing homework folders.
  • Attends meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Creates bulletin boards, maintains materials and supplies, contacts parents, and makes copies.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Acts as a student help aide in moving students and assisting with personal hygiene activities.
  • Makes materials; sets up and monitors student activities; moves and shelves books; stocks and cleans rooms; and copies materials.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Title Schools: 60 hours of secondary education or successful completion of the Paraprofessional test.
  • Special Needs: Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC).

Physical Requirements

  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • May be subjected to odors, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.

Pay

Return-to-work retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed without falling below minimum wage.
