About the role

This role is responsible for inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of company light-duty trucks, service bodies, small/medium trailers, and related towing equipment. This role supports safe, compliant, and reliable fleet operations to ensure crews, tools, and smaller equipment can be moved efficiently between shops and jobsites.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair engines, cooling systems, fuel systems, and aftertreatment (where applicable).
  • Maintain and repair brakes (disc/drum, hydraulic), suspension, steering, exhaust, and driveline components.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems: charging/starting, lighting, accessories, trailer connections, upfitter wiring, and CAN bus modules.
  • Service and repair HVAC systems where qualified.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair:
    • electric and hydraulic brake systems
    • axles, hubs, bearings, wheels, and tires
    • suspension components (leaf springs, equalizers, hangers)
    • lighting and wiring harnesses, breakaway systems, junction boxes, and plugs
    • hitches, couplers, jacks, safety chains, and breakaway devices
  • Perform proper bearing service, brake adjustments, and alignments as applicable.
  • Install and maintain service bodies, flatbeds, ladder racks, toolboxes, tow packages, and hitches, liftgates, small cranes, winches, inverters, and power distribution systems as equipped.
  • Perform light welding and fabrication (MIG/stick) for brackets, steps, guards, and light structural repairs.
  • Use scan tools, dealer/OEM software, and service information systems for modern light trucks.
  • Use multimeters, test lights, and basic diagnostic equipment for electrical issues.
  • Use standard shop equipment safely: lifts, jacks, stands, presses, tire machines, balancers, and basic fabrication tools.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Light/Medium Truck Technology, or related program from an accredited trade school or community college (preferred)
  • Lift 40–60 lbs routinely; occasionally more with assistance or mechanical aids.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods at bench and floor level.
  • Work in shop and yard environments with varying temperature, noise, and dust levels.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Exhibit strong work ethic, teamwork, customer service, verbal, and written skills
  • Age 18+
  • Proof of Identity and Employment Authorization

Qualifications

Years of experience (preferred):

  • Entry / Level I: 1–3 years of hands-on experience in automotive/light truck, medium-duty truck, or trailer repair (apprenticeship or strong school experience may qualify).
  • Intermediate / Level II: 3–5 years of experience as an automotive/light truck or trailer technician with increasing diagnostic responsibility.
  • Senior / Lead: 5+ years of direct experience maintaining and repairing light trucks and a full range of trailers; able to mentor junior technicians.

Experience in relevant environments such as automotive/light truck repair shops, medium-duty fleet maintenance, trailer and upfitting shops or construction or utility fleet.
