Light Duty Technician II $1500 New Hire Bonus
About the role
Cox Fleet is hiring a Light & Medium Duty Technician to perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role involves scheduled dedicated work on assigned customer fleets (primarily light & medium duty gas vehicles) and may include emergency roadside services. The position requires creative problem-solving, self-management, critical thinking, excellent customer service, attention to detail, and situational awareness. While the role has dedicated hours, flexibility in scheduling and the ability to function effectively in emergency situations is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including but not limited to:
- Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
- Starters/Alternators
- Fan clutches
- Engine electronics
- Power steering systems
- Engines (gas and diesel)
- Transmissions (manual and automatic)
- Clutches
- Differentials
- Participate in regularly scheduled safety training and remain up to date on safety protocols.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company-issued devices and proprietary applications.
- Communicate with management, team members, and Dispatch via Microsoft Office products, email, or phone for approvals, purchase orders, and discussions.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Work with, understand, and evaluate technical information related to the job.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage your own daily schedule.
- Assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment (as listed above).
- Confer with customers, Dispatch, and/or Sales team to discuss vehicle problems and work to be performed.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (combination of light & heavy duty preferred). Alternatively, any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
- Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
- Safe driving record required; 3-year MVR review will be conducted. Must hold a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
Pay
Hourly pay rate is in the range of $32.31 - $48.46/hour. The base rate may vary based on factors such as location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and/or incentive programs.
