Light Duty Lead Mechanic

Summary or Purpose

Supervise Mechanics and maintenance of Light Duty vehicles in Barrow and maintain records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Schedule and support maintenance of all light duty vehicles.
• Estimate parts and labor, update and order inventory, write reports, keep logs and prepare work orders.
• Inspect maintenance work to ensure quality control.
• Perform hands-on-training of subordinates.
• Evaluate personnel and job performance.
• Conduct safety meetings and instruct personnel regarding Borough policies and procedures.
• Perform the duties of a Automotive Mechanic.
• Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air driven tools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
• Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
• Skill in the operation of diagnostic equipment.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

• High school graduate or G.E.D./, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
• Four years of light duty mechanic experience;
• Two years of supervisory experience;
• Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 300, IS 400, IS 700 and IS 800;
• Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications;
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
