Primary Objective

Operate gasoline or electric-powered industrial trucks or tractors equipped with forklift and/or elevated platform to move materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates drive gasoline- or electric-powered trucks to transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas
  • Operates lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams and swivel-hooks, hoists, and elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, and stack material
  • Moves pallets, skids, and boxes, and secures material or products for transport to designated areas
  • Dumps, sprays, or releases materials into hoppers
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment
  • Manually load or unload materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, cars, or lifting devices
  • Operates or tends automatic stacking, loading, packaging, or cutting machines
  • Weighs materials or products and records weight and other production data as required
  • Records quality and output measures and completes any other necessary paperwork
  • Performs a pre-shift daily inspection on the lift truck
  • Attends any job-related training deemed necessary by supervision
  • Follows all established standard operating and safety procedures as well as company policies
  • Performs general housekeeping duties as necessary
  • Performs other tasks assigned by management

Knowledge, Experience, Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Lift Truck Certification preferred
  • Successful completion of all required on the job training
  • Successful completion of all required health and environmental safety training
  • 6+ months of forklift experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a warehouse or as a general laborer preferred

Competencies

  • Operate in a team-based environment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math skills

Physical Requirements

  • May require bending, squatting, climbing, and other physical movement for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Working around moving equipment and in an industrial environment
  • Working in an environment where there may be regular exposure to chemicals, noise from machinery, dust, fumes, and variable temperatures

Type of Experience and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures and safety guidelines
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently
  • Basic understanding of material handling and logistics
