About the role
An award-winning regional lifestyle magazine covering Northern Virginia's dining, culture, travel, and community scene is hiring a Lifestyle Editor to lead coverage across its print magazine, website, and newsletters. The publication serves an affluent and engaged readership throughout the region and has won more than a dozen editorial and design awards. This role is ideal for a seasoned editor and writer who thrives on generating compelling story ideas, managing multiple content streams, and producing high-quality journalism across print and digital platforms. The Lifestyle Editor also manages editorial interns and represents the publication at community events.
Responsibilities
- Pitching, assigning, writing, and editing engaging lifestyle content for both print and digital
- Overseeing coverage of food and drink, travel, things to do, and related topics
- Managing daily lifestyle-related online newsletters and website posts
- Contributing to daily news coverage and the publication's daily newsletter
- Participating in daily and weekly content planning meetings
- Editing and proofing print stories in Word, InDesign, and PDF formats
- Editing and producing digital stories in WordPress, including photo formatting
- Managing editorial interns
- Attending media events, conducting interviews, and representing the magazine in the community
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional writing and editing experience, preferably in magazines, newspapers, digital media, or lifestyle publications
- Strong editorial judgment with the ability to generate fresh, audience-focused story ideas
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills
- Deep understanding of digital publishing, audience engagement, and content strategy
- Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and content optimization
- Experience with WordPress or other content management systems
- Knowledge of AP Style with keen attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously
- Interest in and knowledge of Northern Virginia's communities, culture, dining scene, and lifestyle trends
