About the role

The Lifeguard ensures the safety of all members, guests, and staff in and around the pool area during operating hours, special events, and private functions. This role involves actively monitoring the pool, enforcing safety rules, and responding promptly to emergencies while maintaining a clean and enjoyable environment.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with members regularly and promote aquatic club activities.
  • Maintain pool safety by enforcing all pool rules and club policies.
  • Observe and enforce swimming pool hours of operation.
  • Register members and guests entering the pool area to monitor usage.
  • Strategically position lifeguards to cover all pool areas, ensuring no blind spots.
  • Maintain at least one lifeguard in the chair during weekends, holidays, or as directed.
  • Ensure continuous pool supervision by coordinating breaks with other lifeguards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool deck, lounge chairs, tables, and restrooms.
  • Straighten pool furniture and clean all pool areas at the start, throughout, and end of each shift.
  • Unlock/lock pool office, restrooms, and pool gate at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Replace lane lines and store equipment when not in use.
  • Complete daily assignments to uphold club standards and maintain organized workspaces.
  • Turn in charge slips, checks, and other documents daily for prompt processing.
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed due to the dynamic nature of the club.
  • Follow all company, club, and department policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Maintain professionalism and excellence in interactions with members and staff.
  • Follow safe working practices and encourage others to do the same.
  • Take initiative in personal and professional growth, maintaining required certifications.
  • Address and resolve challenges using available resources.
  • Attend daily briefings and engage in required activities.

Requirements

  • ASCA or USA swimming certification.
  • Certification in CPR, first aid, and AED within the last 6 months.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, members, and guests.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience coaching swimmers of various ages and skill levels (preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent swimming, sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
  • Occasional exposure to temperature changes, dust, fumes, or gases.
  • Squatting, kneeling, reaching, grasping, twisting, and bending.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
  • Talking, hearing, and seeing.

Tools & Equipment

  • Swim cap, goggles, fins, noodles, whistles.
  • First aid kits and safety signage.
  • Lifeguard equipment such as rescue tubes and buoyancy aids.
  • Timers, stopwatches, radios, or smartphones.

Schedule

  • Adherence to attendance requirements as outlined in the weekly schedule.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed.
  • Availability to work on weekends and/or holidays as required.
