About the Role

Join LifeFlight's Critical Care team and play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to critically ill patients in a state-of-the-art Critical Care Ambulance. As a Critical Care Paramedic, you will provide advanced pre-hospital and inter-facility patient care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility. You will maintain thorough patient care documentation, practice within the scope defined by Tennessee state regulations and program protocols, and demonstrate proficient clinical knowledge and competency in psychomotor skills.

You will act as a clinical role model and resource, participate in improvement activities and problem-solving projects, and communicate safety concerns and educational needs. Stellar customer service to both internal and external customers is expected.

Department Summary

As part of the LifeFlight Critical Care team, you will work alongside an EMT/AEMT and a Critical Care Nurse to provide advanced care to critically ill patients. The critical care ground ambulance is equipped with essential tools for advanced care, including:

• Blood products
• Full monitoring with invasive hemodynamic values
• Specialized equipment such as Hamilton T1 ventilator, ISAT, Medtronic pacemaker, High flow Nasal Cannula, and 8-channel IV pump
• A vast number of medications
• Knowledge to operate VAD, Impella, IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), and ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the critical care nurse partner in establishing the plan of care, coordinating and implementing care delivery while following LifeFlight protocols.
• Analyze comprehensive medical history information to determine care goals, transport time, and additional extenuating factors.
• Continually reassess patient needs and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
• Employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
• Effectively use medical control when appropriate.
• Utilize technology to facilitate the use of additional resources, including EMR, radiological studies, pharmacy resources, best practice resources, GPS, protocols, and inventory.
• Maintain clinical proficiency and competency per regulatory and accreditation compliance.
• Participate in self and program improvement activities and problem-solving projects.
• Review current research and apply findings for evidence-based practice.
• Ensure documentation accurately reflects care provided and meets LifeFlight documentation standards.
• Communicate collaboratively to facilitate quality patient care and ensure safe handoff at the accepting facility.

Requirements

Required:

• High School Diploma/GED
• TN Critical Care Paramedic License (CCP)
• Valid Driver's License from state of residence

Preferred:

• 3 years of Critical Care Paramedic Experience or 5 years of Paramedic experience in a high-volume 911 system
• Previous Critical Care Transport Experience
• NREMT
• Kentucky Critical Care Paramedic license
• Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) and VFK training
• NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800
• Difficult Airway Course (D.A.C)
• PHTLS or equivalent trauma certification
• ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• S.T.A.B.L.E.
• Advanced certification - CCP-C

Skills

• Medication Management (Advanced): Mastery in practical applications, including conducting individual or group interventions to improve medication self-administration, assessing side effects, and providing education.
• Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Advanced): Mastery in practical applications, capable of training and educating others.
• Airway Establishing (Intermediate): Mastery in practical applications, capable of training and educating others.
• Critical Thinking (Advanced): Demonstrates recognition of assumptions, empirical grounding, and sound reasoning leading to conclusions and implications.
• Ventilator Management (Advanced): Mastery in practical applications, capable of training and educating others.

Schedule

Full-Time, minimum of three (3) 12-hour shifts per week.
