Responsibilities
- Providing general classroom guidance for career planning, social adjustment, life skills, and personal management.
- Defining terminology and identifying community resources to explain the reality of pre-release activities and plans to inmates.
- Reviewing curriculums and resources available to enhance inmates' participation in pre-release/life skill programs and activities.
- Assessing inmates’ needs and referring them to appropriate staff.
- Helping inmates in planning and developing an individual post-release plan and encouraging them to assume the responsibility for post-release behaviors and activities.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
- A bachelor's degree in a related area is preferred.
- Relevant teaching and/or counseling experience in a correctional setting is preferred.
- An appropriate valid teaching certification may be required by the client agency.
