About the role
New Horizons is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals with special needs. We enhance their quality of life and promote their independence and inclusion in the community.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized training programs based on each individual's goals and needs
- Teach essential life skills such as personal hygiene, home maintenance, meal planning and preparation, money management, and community navigation
- Assist individuals in developing social skills, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities
- Provide support and encouragement to foster independence and self-confidence
- Track progress and document outcomes for each individual
Requirements
- Bilingual - English / Spanish is a plus
- A perfect part-time or second job!
- Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is a plus but not necessary. We are willing to train the right candidate
- Flexible availability. 25 - 40 hours a week (may include weekends)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with individuals with special needs or developmental disabilities preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create engaging and interactive lesson plans
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
- Ability to adapt and modify instruction to accommodate individual needs and abilities
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Authorized to work in the United States
