About the role
The City of Roanoke is seeking a dedicated Juvenile Life Skills Coach to perform human services work with juveniles involved with the Court Service Unit.
Responsibilities
- Administer standardized assessments for referred youth.
- Congnrols and monitors program activities pertaining to the implementation of 23 Court Service Unit policies and procedures and the Code of Virginia.
- Develops and implements individualized plans to foster life skills and social competence.
- Conducts home visits to assess risk factors and implement interventions.
- Works collaboratively with other community agencies for service coordination and program development.
- Collects and analyzes data on barriers to goal progress, baseline data and trends over time.
- Performs routine court testimony, data collection, data analysis and reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a major in social work, psychology, criminal justice or related field; two years related experience and/or training in counseling, case management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a valid state driver's license.
- Work Monday thru Friday, some evenings.
- Must clear criminal background investigation.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a major in social work, psychology, criminal justice or related field; two years related experience and/or training in counseling, case management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Reasoning Abilities: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Physical Demands: Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as laws, policies, regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to respond effectively to inquiries orally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
