About the role
The position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and governed by their collective bargaining agreement with Stanford University. The Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology focuses on both basic and clinical research, training fellows for academic careers, and providing care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
Responsibilities
- Perform animal techniques within germ-free/gnotobiotic isolators and gnotobiotic cages.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain isolators with specialized training and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ensure compliance with sterility requirements during highly detailed procedures on animals and gnotobiotic equipment with minimal supervision.
- Work collaboratively with research personnel and maintain accurate records related to animal husbandry and breeding.
- Handle materials up to 10 pounds frequently, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records while working in a research laboratory environment.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm.
Requirements
- Experience with gnotobiotic animals and maintaining records related to animal husbandry and breeding.
- Knowledge of various mouse models such as bacterial gavaging, collection of feces, urine, and/or blood, tissue dissection, tumor implantation, allergy models, obesity models, colitis models, and cancer models.
- Exceptional attention to details and ability to work collaboratively with research personnel.
- Possess computer skills and ability to set-up record keeping systems.
Qualifications
- One year’s employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).
- Preferred 2 years of experience with gnotobiotic animals and maintaining records related to animal husbandry and breeding.
- Knowledge of the following procedures and models in mice: bacterial gavaging, collection of feces, urine, and/or blood, tissue dissection and harvesting samples, tumor implantation, Allergy models, Obesity models, Colitis Models, Cancer Models.
