About the role

The Kan Lab at Stanford University’s Department of Urology (Pediatric Urology) seeks a new team member to join their efforts in improving pediatric bladder health through community and clinical research. This role involves planning experiments, conducting data collection, analyzing results, and contributing to publications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in community and clinical settings based on scientific theory.
  • Independently conduct data collection according to study protocol; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Apply theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researchers.
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
  • Contribute to publication of findings as needed.
  • Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Afford assistance with general research operations maintenance, including managing documentation and consent forms, ensuring that all software tools and resources are up-to-date and accessible, and providing support for ongoing research activities as needed.
  • Afford assistance with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., biomedical/clinical sciences, social sciences, data science/computer science, biostatistics/epidemiology/public health, bioengineering/bioinformatics); Master’s a plus.
  • English fluency, bilingual in English-Spanish preferred.
  • Experience supporting clinical/translational research, including in-person data collection.
  • Proficiency with SAS, REDCap, IRB, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel (project tracking).
  • Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills; familiarity with grant preparation and NIH regulatory procedures a plus, first author on peer-reviewed manuscript a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (biomedical/clinical sciences, social sciences, data science/computer science, etc.) is mandatory; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required, with bilingual abilities in English-Spanish being an advantage.
  • Experience in supporting clinical/translational research, including in-person data collection, is essential.
  • Proficiency with SAS, REDCap, IRB, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel (project tracking) is a must.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills are vital.
  • Familiarity with grant preparation and NIH regulatory procedures is desirable.
  • First authorship on a peer-reviewed manuscript is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is beneficial.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Sometimes sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
