The Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to support its mission.

Responsibilities

• Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests, responding to all inquiries in a timely manner.
• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area by continuously scanning the pool area from side to side and regularly walking around to check blind spots, steam room, and sauna.
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six model.” Completes related reports as required.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and for the duration of the shift.
• Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
• Fulfills any other functions designated by the YMCA Administration.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Maintain a certification level of physical and mental readiness.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/ARC standards.
• Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
