Life Enrichment Director

About the Role

Responsible for all aspects of the Activity and Volunteer programs designed to meet the residents’ social, physical, mental, emotional, and sensory needs.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all company personnel directives according to the Employee Handbook and ensure that all Activities employees do the same.
• Maintain strong positive relationships with residents, families, caregivers, potential residents, community contacts, current residents, and staff.
• Represent the organization in a manner consistent with its mission and values.
• Plan, promote, budget, and facilitate/lead activity events or programs.
• Develop the organization’s monthly calendar of activities for Independent Living (IL), Assisted Living (AL), Memory Care (MC), and Care Suites (CS) residents, ensuring a well-rounded menu of programs for all aspects of the campus.
• Supervise activities to ensure they are staffed or supported by volunteers.
• Lead activities as necessary to ensure their success and consistency.
• Evaluate programming to meet current and future needs.
• Act as ‘editor in chief’ of the monthly newsletter, coordinating contributions from staff and residents to create an informative and entertaining publication.
• Work with vendors, such as entertainers, to enrich the activities calendar with musical, educational, spiritual, and entertaining features.
• Supervise campus activities personnel through direction, mentoring, corrective action, and performance evaluations.
• Support the training and mentoring of Resident Assistants in Memory Care and Care Suites for their activity-related responsibilities, in coordination with the Director of Nursing.
• Manage the Theater by planning and ordering movies, training staff in its operation, and creatively using the space for events like educational programs and sporting events.
• Promote, recruit, train, supervise, and recognize volunteers, maintaining files with background checks, resumes, reference checks, and evaluations.
• Work with Resident Council and other committees to plan, implement, advertise, and evaluate resident-selected activities.
• Coordinate transportation for outside events/programs in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Accompany residents on field trips as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• BA in Gerontology, Human Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Services, or Activity Director Certified.
• Minimum of 2 years of activities experience in retirement, assisted living, or long-term care facility.
• 2+ years of experience working with senior programs (if not holding the above degree).
• Proficiency in basic Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) computer programs.
• Willingness to drive residents in the Activity Bus (no special license required).
• Strong creativity in developing and planning activity programs.
• Experience with group leadership and one-on-one visits with residents of all functioning levels.
• Background in financial planning and budgeting.
• Ability to make responsible choices and decisions in the residents’ best interest.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, spell, perform basic math, speak, and understand English.
• Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.

Pay

$52,000–$58,000 per year
