About the role

Prairie Gate senior living community in Council Bluffs, Iowa, is one of Presbyterian Homes & Services' newest communities. Prairie Gate’s updated prairie-style architecture features inviting interior spaces for social gatherings, opening to an expanse of prairie plantings and flowers lining outdoor walking paths, engaging the senses and promoting wellness. At the heart of the community, the two-story 21,000 square foot Town Center offers an array of amenities and services, including community gathering spaces, restaurant-style dining, a bistro, salon, library, club room, business office, guest suite, chapel, and wellness center with an aerobics studio. This community offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Long Term Care.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and monitor established life enhancement/life enrichment programming for residents consistent with regulations and established policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Promote the resident’s well-being and satisfaction by supporting liberty in all areas of the resident’s life.
  • Develop and interpret standards of care, guiding the interdisciplinary team to establish and implement the resident’s plan of care with the resident, their family, and the Household team.
  • Help improve systems and eliminate barriers to resident-centered care and services.
  • Collaborate with residents, families, other professionals, and staff to implement established programs that meet the psychosocial and activities needs of residents and the Household, including creating diverse opportunities for meaningful pursuits, daily pleasures, life enrichment, exercise, friendships, social interaction, growth and learning, fun and enjoyment, personal routines, spontaneous activity, and Household rituals.
  • Lead and participate in Chat Circles with residents and staff in the household daily.
  • Assist residents with activities of their choice, group, individual, or one-on-one.
  • Provide for resident leisure life activities.
  • Take residents outdoors or out in the facility community.
  • Plan, implement, and participate in outings and special events.
  • Provide one-on-one interaction with residents based on preferences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, program, implement, and coordinate recreation programming for residents.
  • Previous experience with seniors preferred.
  • Class B license or ability to obtain within six months of hire as required by site.
  • Must obtain a chauffeur's license upon hire.
  • Strong communication skills, including good insights into resident preferences and needs.
  • Demonstrated communication and relationship-building skills with residents.
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours such as during evenings and weekends for planned programs.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, initiative, and positive rapport with residents, staff, families, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated compatibility with PHS' mission and operating philosophies.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.

Schedule

  • Part-time: 24 hours/week
  • Flexible afternoon hours Monday through Friday
  • 2 weekend days per month required (flexibility on hours)

Pay and additional benefits

Full-time benefits-eligible employment begins at a minimum of 30 hours per week:

  • Health and dental insurance, including applicable HSA & FSA
