Purpose of this position

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for exploring, developing, and implementing events and interactions that meet the emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of residents in an assisted living setting. They also develop an overall program to enrich the lives of each resident.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience relevant to working with frail elderly, including those with dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease).
  • Course work or experience in gerontology.
  • Compassion for serving the frail elderly population.
  • Innovative and creative thinking processes.
  • May have a background as a recreation therapist, COTA, OT, or state-certified Activity Therapist.
  • Empathetic and perceptive to individual variations among residents.

Essential Duties

  • Affirm residents' social interactions to prevent reclusiveness.
  • Encourage residents to participate in Resident Council and other committees.
  • Plan and conduct large and small group events, both on-site and off-site.
  • Maintain interaction with residents who tend to stay in their rooms.
  • Arrange and coordinate transportation for recreational activities.
  • Learns and maintains a CDL from the Michigan Secretary of State for homes with HPM Independent Living buses.
  • Maximize community involvement with local resources such as schools, colleges, senior centers, churches, etc.
  • Decorate for holidays and plan special events.
  • Edit the resident newsletter.
  • Photograph events and submit to DROPBOX for the HPM-ALC Marketing Coordinator.
  • Takes resident social histories.
  • Coordinates with other personnel to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • Recruits, coordinates, trains, and oversees volunteers, including GEMS.
  • Coordinates or leads a Dementia support group for families, if applicable.
  • Coordinates GEMS training with Resident Support Staff, Housekeeping, and Culinary staff.
  • Fulfills guidelines specified in the operations manual, state and local guidelines, Teepa Snow’s GEMS, Alzheimer's Association Care guidelines, and best practices for senior activity programs.
  • Complies with all applicable and governing laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains compliance with the budget: salary, supplies, entertainment, transportation.
  • Other duties as assigned or necessary to fulfill the goals and objectives of the living center.

General Responsibilities

  • Participates in family and community events as directed, including Family GEMS training.
  • Rotates through evening and weekend Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts.
  • Coordinates fundraising events.
  • Complies with Life Safety policies and participates in periodic drills.
  • Attends educational and training opportunities.
  • Reports safety and health hazards to supervisors.
  • Reports any observed changes or concerns about residents to the Shift Supervisor.

  • Maintains professional standards of behavior at work and outside of work.
  • Communicates professionally, maturely, and respectfully with all persons who interact with the assisted living center.

  • Works cooperatively with others on the same shift and across shifts.
  • Reports to work as scheduled.
  • Treats all residents with dignity and respect.
  • Complies with all Resident Rights, including confidentiality and HIPAA Privacy rules.
  • Complies with the guidelines stated in the Employee Handbook.
  • Follows Universal Precautions and good infection control practices.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Able to walk distances on hard surfaces.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to bend, stoop, turn, twist, squat, kneel, push, pull, reach, and stretch.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Some repetitive motion work.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Able to use telephone for communication.
  • Able to read and comprehend the written word, in English.
  • Able to lift at least 25# pounds.
  • Able to work on site or at marketing events, not a remote work position.
  • Licensed Driver with the ability to drive to appointments as needed, including a CDL if access to a HPM independent living bus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly range $23.00-$24.00.
  • Eligible for a 2% increase in pay rate after 90 days of employment with a satisfactory review.
  • An annual increase in pay rate is merit-based, based on a comprehensive, written performance review conducted by the supervisor and Administrator.
