Lieutenant Supervisor - Police Officer - Day Shift

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests, and patients.
  • Counsels, coaches and evaluates subordinate personnel.
  • Affords assistance to teams in de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations and proactively prevents crime and safety incidents.
  • Ensures a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients, and guests.
  • Serves as shift commander and supervises sergeants, police officers and Public Safety Officers.
  • Issues work assignments and supervises work activities of all assigned personnel.
  • Completes and approves work schedules to ensure proper shift coverage.
  • Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties owned, leased, or occupied by IU Health.
  • Responds to calls for service and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed.
  • Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes.
  • Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required.
  • Performs physical security screening as required.
  • Assists other public safety agencies as needed.
  • Responds to officers’ calls for assistance and assumes onscene command of critical incidents.
  • Controls and assesses situations, identifies appropriate actions to preserve crime scenes, compiles critical information and coordinates activities with other jurisdictions.
  • Acts in the capacity of senior departmental officer in the absence of more senior ranking officers.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent and seven (7) years of law enforcement experience.
  • OR Requires an associate's degree and five (5) years of law enforcement experience.
  • Requires a current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
  • Requires previous successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Tier I or II training, successful completion of the IU Health DPS field training program.
  • Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
  • Must not have convictions for felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor offenses.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
  • Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
  • Has never had a law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
  • Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.
