Lieutenant (#013721) Livesay Correctional Institution, Spartanburg (SPARTANBURG) Level 1

Shift/schedule subject to change. Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned units of a minimum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the units to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations.
• Arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Requirements

• A high school diploma.
• Three (3) years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
