Lieutenant (#011156) Turbeville Correctional Inst, Turbeville, (CLARENDON) Level 2

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned areas of a level two correctional facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
• This position is assigned to the shock incarceration program.
• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

• State of South Carolina minimum: high school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• SCDC minimum: high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one (1) year of supervisory experience; a degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate degree or above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
• Position assigned to the shock incarceration program.
