About the role

The Laser Remote Sensing Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center specializes in the development and application of airborne and spaceborne laser altimetry. The Land, Vegetation, and Ice Sensor (LVIS) is a unique sensor used for collecting wide-swath surface altimetry data over the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, among other regions.

Responsibilities

This research involves assembling various air- and space-borne data sets, developing algorithms and models to analyze surface differences, and creating interactive visualization tools for exploring the Earth's surface. Specific tasks may include:

  • Assembling and analyzing data from LVIS and other airborne and spaceborne sensors
  • Developing and testing new algorithms for surface elevation change detection
  • Creating interactive visualizations for scientific communication
  • Maintaining and updating existing data sets

Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field
  • Strong background in remote sensing, geophysics, or related fields
