About the Role

BWXT is seeking a Licensing & Safety Analysis Engineer to support nuclear safety oversight, first-of-a-kind fuel manufacturing, reactor assembly for research and test reactors, and research projects involving transuranic (TRU) and radioactive byproduct materials. This role is based at the Nuclear Operations Group-Lynchburg facility in Lynchburg, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Administer NRC License SNM-42, VDH 680-028-1, and VDH 680-028-2, including communications with the NRC and state regulators.
  • Direct the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) process, document and report results, and manage all licensing activities.
  • Coordinate Change Review Board (CRB) activities and maintain compliant record-keeping.
  • Facilitate NRC and insurance agent audits, visits, and inspections.
  • Implement programs for Process Hazard Analysis, Safety Evaluation Request (SER), and Management of Change (MoC) for completeness.
  • Assess the impact of facility changes on NRC and VA State Licenses.
  • Interact with front-line supervisors, area management, NRC inspectors, and customer representatives on nuclear safety and licensing matters.
  • Participate in the emergency management organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with NRC regulations, particularly 10 CFR parts 20, 70, 73, and/or 74, and relevant guidance documents.
  • Four years of related experience, preferably in integrated safety analysis or process hazard analysis methodology.
  • Strong commitment to safety and superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with keen attention to detail.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Virginia is $85,000 to $177,000 per year. The offered salary is based on local job market factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. The total compensation package may also include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits.
