Licensed Vocational Nurse I

About the role

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) I provides a variety of administrative, clinical nursing, health education, and outreach services within the community health center.

Responsibilities

• Basic skills for physical assessment including observation, auscultation, palpation, and percussion.
• Basic mental status assessment including observation of general behavior, appearance, and attitude, collection of data relative to sensorium or orientation to time, person, and place, and assessment of recall ability.
• Notifies the physician or Registered Nursing Supervisor under whose direction the licensee functions when noting a problem, complication, or abnormality.

Qualifications

• Experience in practical nursing is desirable, preferably in an ambulatory patient facility.
• A high school graduate or equivalent.
• Satisfactory completion of a state-approved program in vocational nursing, plus current license to practice in the State of California.
• Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
• Dependable, willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend and follow instructions accurately.
• Communicates tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity, to staff, patients, and family members.
• Displays excellent interpersonal skills.
• Willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, and knows the principles of growth and development over the life span.
• Familiarity with English (speaks, reads, and writes).
• Familiarity with Spanish (speaks, interprets, reads, and writes).
• Possesses absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient information.
• Utilizes electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments.
• If the position is located at a School Base Clinic, submits fingerprints in a manner authorized by the California Department of Justice, with no adverse findings.
• Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
