About the role

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Katy plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients dealing with various mental health issues. Our team focuses on promoting long-term wellness through a variety of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers quality nursing care to assigned patients, collecting data and identifying deviations from normal.
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents all findings in the patient record and communicates pertinent assessment findings with other healthcare members.
  • Implements nursing care interventions identified in the individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan, collaborating with other healthcare providers.
  • Conducts specified bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and provides for comfort and assistance in the performance of ADLs.
  • Promotes the patient's ability to cope, adapt, and solve situations related to illness and stressors.
  • Provides supportive, age-appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions, documenting special needs.
  • Administers medications in accordance with facility policies and physician orders, ensuring accurate communication and documentation of medication doses.
  • Ensures patients are effectively assessed before and after medication administration, communicating incomplete assignments and patient needs to other disciplines.
  • Utilizes nursing knowledge to meet the needs of the facility, patient population, and staff members.
  • Utilizes nursing resources to enhance evidence-based practice.
  • Guides, educates, and provides leadership as a preceptor to new staff.

Requirements

  • Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state of employment.
  • One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments and assess potential for patient escalation.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to consistently achieve positive results with internal and external customers.
  • Highly organized and sensitive to serving culturally diverse and special needs populations such as chronically mentally ill, geriatric, CD, etc.
  • Critical thinking abilities and the ability to apply them for continuous improvement of patient care.
  • Self-confidence and the ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others.
  • Successfully completed CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
