Licensed Vocational Nurse

About the role

This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until canceled.

Responsibilities

• Provides specialized health care services and procedures (SPHCS) to medically fragile students and students with exceptional needs, as well as, general education students.
• Under general supervision of the Director of Student Services and the professional direction of a California credentialed school nurse, performs specialized health care services and procedures (SPHCS).
• Administers injections/medications with skill.
• Evaluates and assesses student illness or emergency medical situations.
• Operates a variety of specialized medical equipment.
• Operates and uses computers and related peripheral equipment.
• Understands and follows oral and written instructions.
• Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited vocational nursing program.
• Two years of acute nursing experience.
• Work with medically fragile children in a school environment is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Basic nursing concepts and patient care-related subjects.
• Six signs and symptoms of childhood and/or adolescent illnesses.
• General concepts of child development and characteristics of children with special needs.
• Universal health precautions and proper techniques for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
• Proper use and care of medical materials, supplies and equipment.
• Ability to Provide skilled vocational nursing skills.
• Provide specialized health care procedures and services.
