Licensed Veterinary Technician - Oncology
About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Oncology Veterinary Technician to join our Midtown, NY team!
Responsibilities
- Treat and monitor patients
- Support clinicians with patient care and client communication
- Perform physical exams
- Accurately count vital signs and alert doctors of abnormalities
- Perform phlebotomy
- Place peripheral intravenous catheters
- Calculate and administer chemotherapy agents
- Handle chemotherapy infusions safely
- Admit and discharge oncology patients
- Provide client education on post-chemotherapy care
- Maintain medical knowledge and communicate effectively with veterinary professionals
- Assist with anesthesia and monitoring
- Participate in continuing education and maintain certifications
Requirements
- Self-motivated and quick-thinking
- Minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital
- Good communication skills and compassion
- Knowledge of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations
- Understanding of tumor types and diagnostic work-up protocols
- Working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment
Qualifications
- Minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital
- Two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital preferred
- Experience with chemotherapy administration and management
- Ability to handle stressful situations and multi-task efficiently
- Strong communication and client interaction skills
- Knowledge of R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines

Pay
This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.
Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example, Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr.
Schedule
Shifts may vary but typically include evenings, nights, and weekends.
