About the role
The Licensed Veterinary Technician supports and assists the doctors of the hospital. Their responsibilities include assisting doctors in medical procedures, preparing patients for surgery, administering fluids, giving injections, and administering medications. They also interact with clients, providing general information, home care advice, and follow-up instructions.
Responsibilities
- Provides compassionate care to patients and clients
- Absorb stress and focus on individual tasks
- Assists doctors in medical procedures
- Prepares patients for surgery
- Administers injections and medications
- Conducts emergency procedures like controlling bleeding, resuscitation, and external cardiac massage
- Keeps accurate medical records
- Care for inpatients, maintain kennel area, exam rooms, and treatment areas
- Performs physical assessments and record observations
- Restrain pets, lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Understand common vaccines and protocols, explain to clients
- Maintain a clean and orderly facility
- Feed animals, record appetites, walk animals when appropriate
- Prepare estimates for procedures, discuss financial commitments with clients
- Counsel clients on care, dosage, and home care instructions
- Accurately fill medications according to doctor's orders
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid license to practice as a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Virginia
- Previous on-the-job experience desirable, but not required
- Previous animal care background plus
- Proficient in all tasks outlined in the Licensed Veterinary Technician position
Qualifications
- Accreditation from a Veterinary Technician program required
- Proficient in basic computer software
- Previous veterinary practice systems a plus

Schedule
This is a Part-time position with non-negotiable weekends. Additional shifts can be added such as Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 10:30A-7PM, Saturday 8A-3P, and Sunday 9A-1P or Saturday 8A-3P, Sunday 9A-1P, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 10:30A-7PM.
