Licensed Therapist, Inpatient Adolescents

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Licensed Therapist to work with our inpatient adult dual-diagnosis population at Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services. As the Piedmont Triad's only private psychiatric hospital, we provide comprehensive care for chemical dependency illnesses and behavioral healthcare needs. Our 164-bed facility serves adolescents through senior adulthood, offering assessments, psychiatric evaluation, medication stabilization, daily group therapy, and personalized aftercare planning. We also provide Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs to ensure continuity of care. Old Vineyard is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients and develop psychosocial histories within established timelines.
• Assess the therapeutic needs of individuals and families.
• Develop appropriate treatment objectives and treatment summaries.
• Serve as the primary contact and advocate for patients and families during their stay.
• Conduct psychoeducational therapy groups.
• Lead discharge planning activities.
• Document assessments, treatment planning, and interventions clearly and concisely.
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary treatment team, managed care representatives, patients, and families.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or a related human services field.
• Current license from the State of North Carolina (LCMHC/LCMHCA, LCSW/LCSWA, LMFT/LMFTA). Dual license (e.g., LCAS) is strongly preferred.
• One (1) year of direct clinical experience in family, individual, and group therapy with adolescents and/or adults.
• Specialized training in treatment modalities such as abuse-reactive issues, sexual offending, substance abuse, sexual trauma, vocational therapy, play therapy, art therapy, or relaxation therapy.
• Knowledge of human development across the lifespan.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Understanding of individual, group, and family therapy dynamics, including cultural, social, and economic factors.
• Ability to assess treatment dynamics and develop effective strategies within the overall treatment plan.
• For those working with adolescents: ability to interpret adolescent needs, knowledge of growth and developmental stages, and understanding of age-specific treatment requirements.
• Knowledge of human behavior, principles of psychology, therapeutic relationships, age-specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis, and behavior management.

• Ability to walk and stand frequently.
• Frequent face-to-face and telephone communication.
• Legible and grammatically correct writing for patient charts.
• Normal or corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
• Fluent and effective verbal and written communication in English.
• Ability to perform Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (physical, verbal, and non-verbal techniques).
• Professional interaction with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and other department representatives.
