About the role

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor is assigned to the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MH RRTP).

Responsibilities

  • Initial assessment and psychotherapy of Veterans in a residential setting with a wide range of mental health problems - including PTSD, anxiety, depression, & substance use and/or comorbid medical/psychosocial issues.
  • Diagnostic services and evidence-based psychotherapies in individual & group settings.

Requirements

  • Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, which includes diagnosis and treatment.

Qualifications

  • Experience: At least one year of post-master's or post-doctoral degree mental health counseling experience (VA or non-VA experience), and licensed to practice at the independent practice level.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendations for treatment planning and implementation; advanced knowledge and mastery of the counseling process; ability to provide crisis intervention and stabilization; ability to develop and facilitate psychotherapy and psycho-education groups; ability to use the current DSM in making diagnoses and applying appropriate clinical intervention.

Skills

  • Knowledge of counseling theories and techniques; ability to use computer software applications for documentation and service delivery; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams; ability to manage caseloads and maintain accurate records.
