Summary

This licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position is located at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Traverse City, MI. The experienced LPMHC independently provides clinical psychosocial and case management services at an advanced practice level to eligible veterans and their family members to meet their mental health needs.

Interviews and Psychosocial Assessment

• Interviews veterans and their family members/significant others to establish facts about the veteran's situation, presenting problems and their causes, and the impact of such problems on the veteran's functioning and health as part of a psychosocial assessment.
• Interprets and explains VA's treatment options.
• Refers veterans to Benefits officers.

Determining Psychosocial Diagnoses

• Independently evaluates the client's situation.
• Evaluates the veteran's reaction.
• Uses professional judgement.
• Uses advanced practice skills.

Planning Effective Treatment

• Determines the likelihood of the veteran accepting differing types of assistance or referrals.
• Develops preliminary psychosocial treatment plans in coordination with veteran/family.
• Makes recommendations to the interdisciplinary team.
• Uses known available resources.
• Makes initial decisions regarding the use of VA and non-VA services and referrals.

Implementing Treatment

• Provides interventions.
• Provides advice, guidance, and emotional support, and other assistance.
• Provides patient education.
• Is accountable for the overall outcomes of the services provided.

Evaluation, Documentation and Education

• Documents independently in the medical records utilizing electronic formats, including psychosocial assessments, diagnostics, treatment, progress notes, follow up, and referral.
• Maintains comprehensive documentation.
• Ensures expert diagnosis and treatment of clinical disorders.

Qualifications

• Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
• Full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, which includes diagnosis and treatment.
