Responsibilities
- Administer medication and other prescribed treatments.
- Take vital signs and assist with care plan activities.
- Observe and report patient conditions and behaviors; participate in rehabilitation, ambulation, and transfers.
- Oversee the work of nursing assistants; communicate with doctors, patients, and families; and educate patients on care.
- May transport clients to offsite appointments and apply restraints when necessary.
- Treat pressure sores, change dressings, provide breathing treatments, insert catheters, and flush bladder irrigations.
- Provide bedside care, including feeding and personal hygiene assistance.
- Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; perform laboratory draws; observe patients to detect deviations from normal conditions.
- Prepare, administer, and chart medications according to physician orders under the supervision of a higher-level Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse; contact the pharmacy regarding prescriptions and review filled orders against MAR and physician orders.
- Assist Registered Nurses in preparing nursing assessment summaries and implementing health care plans.
- Instruct patients on how to perform basic personal health care, including rehabilitative and preventative care.
- Review hospital discharge orders and consult with primary doctor as needed.
- Attend medical appointments with patients.
- Complete assessments for injuries, falls, neurology checks, and tube feedings.
- Assist with the patient admission process and participate in nursing care planning.
- Complete practical nursing duties without detailed instruction; work is reviewed through reports, inspections, and observations.
- Utilize Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) system.
- Provide training to direct support staff.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with the developmentally disabled.
- Strong work ethic and active interest in helping to care for consumers.
- Knowledge of current nursing theory, practices, and techniques.
- Skill in applying practical nursing principles in the care of persons with physical or mental illness, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or the geriatric population.
- Ability to work assigned schedule which may include a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or required overtime.
- Possession of a current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri's Nurse Licensure Compact.
Schedule
- 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Sunday through Thursday.
