About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Oceans Behavioral Hospital DeRidder is responsible for providing nursing care to patients dealing with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Services are provided under the supervision of a registered nurse, utilizing the nursing process and adhering to Joint Commission, Federal, and State regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers quality nursing care by collecting data, identifying deviations, and assisting with reassessments.
  • Accurately documents findings and communicates them to other healthcare members.
  • Implements nursing care interventions, performs treatments, and administers medications safely and according to protocols.
  • Conducts bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and supports patients in performing activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Promotes patient coping mechanisms and provides supportive communication.
  • Ensures medication administration is accurate and documented, and educates patients on their medications.
  • Follows up on assigned tasks and communicates patient needs to other healthcare teams.
  • Utilizes nursing knowledge to enhance patient care and leads in training new staff.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Current, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state of employment.
  • One year of inpatient hospital experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments and assess potential patient escalations.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and special needs populations.
  • Self-confidence and ability to lead and direct others.
  • CPR certification and participation in an approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Work Environment

This position involves working in a high-paced, stressful environment with frequent interruptions. It requires spending approximately 90% of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position may involve exposure to disagreeable odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behavior.
