About the role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in our hospital, providing skilled nursing care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position integrates our core values into daily practice and supports our mission to transform lives.
Responsibilities
- Provides skilled nursing care to patients as ordered by the physician and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Implements orders for medications and treatments as ordered by the physician and in accordance with the nursing care plan.
- Communicates with the Registered Nurse to develop and update individualized plans of care for each patient.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and seeks guidance when necessary.
- Reports patient care rendered, issues, and problem resolutions to the supervisor.
- Identifies patient problems and potential risks, contributing to the development of interventions.
- Aids in identifying patient learning needs and reinforcing self-care techniques.
- Accurately designates applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital’s established system.
- May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Assesses risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions.
- Complies with safety and infection prevention standards.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an inpatient hospital setting, with inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred.
- Current state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Current CPR certification.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice and infection prevention standards.
- Understanding of accreditation standards to ensure compliance with all relevant state and accrediting agencies.
- Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures, and the ability to apply policies, procedures, and guidelines effectively.
- Basic computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
- Effective critical thinking, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle complex assignments.
- Compliance with safety and infection prevention standards.
- Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
Skills
- Physical stamina for standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods.
- Gross and precise motor functions.
- Lifting capacity of up to 50 lbs.
- Visual acuity for patient assessment and documentation.
- Auditory acuity for accurate patient assessment.
- Manual dexterity for operating equipment and a computer keyboard.
- Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
