About the role
At the Bemidji VA Clinic, you will provide hands-on, mission-driven care that supports Veterans with diverse physical, mental, behavioral and psychological needs. In this vital role, you'll deliver skilled nursing care, help Veterans and families navigate treatment, and contribute to a compassionate, respectful environment where dignity, safety and high-quality care guide every interaction.
Responsibilities
- Provides nursing care for adult and geriatric patients with diverse physical, mental, behavioral, and psychological needs.
- Carries out patient care using judgment to determine appropriate procedures, treatments, and sequencing.
- Recognizes, reports, and documents relevant patient information accurately.
- Serves as a preceptor in collaboration with Registered Nurses (RNs) and/or providers to orient and train less experienced staff.
- Interacts professionally with patients, families, and the healthcare team, incorporating established customer service standards.
- Prepares, administers, and documents prescribed medications and treatments per facility policies.
- Identifies urgent or emergent patient care situations and initiates appropriate interventions under RN or provider direction.
- Establishes constructive relationships that support communication, privacy, dignity, and emotional well-being.
- Performs assigned treatments, procedures, and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment, and seeks educational opportunities to enhance practice.
Requirements
This Job is open to current permanent Department of Veterans Affairs employees, current permanent Federal employees of other agencies, and all US Citizens. Veterans' preference does not apply.

Qualifications
- Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
- Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
- Works with the RN and/or MD/DO to appropriately orient/train less experienced LPNs/LVNs and/or Nursing Assistants (NAs)/Health Technicians (HTs) in relation to acceptable standards of practice in promoting optimal patient care delivery.
- Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous medications as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures.
- Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action.
