Primary Responsibilities
- Administer medications as prescribed within regulation time frame and without error.
- Document resident interactions and observe changes in health.
- Assist with admissions and discharges.
- Supervise C.N.A’s and ensure residents' needs are met.
- Complete monthly summaries and meet with nursing assistants.
- Complete and/or supervise all treatments using standard nursing protocol.
- Record nursing observations on residents’ charts.
- Transcribe, analyze, comprehend and implement doctors’ orders.
- Complete dietary and maintenance forms accurately.
- Update daily flow sheets for C.N.A.’s.
- Report significant resident issues to the Unit Manager.
- Respond to and implement fire plan for Healthcare Center residents.
- Maintain knowledge of safe operation of medical equipment.
- Practice universal precautions and ensure C.N.A.’s use them.
- Prepare change of shift report and communicate with oncoming staff.
- Make rounds on each shift to account for all residents and provide medical attention as needed.
- Handle emergencies and stressful situations professionally.
- Draw labs as ordered and report them to the physician.
- Assess complaints/issues with residents and notify physicians as needed.
- Inform responsible parties of changes in resident care as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be a licensed practical nurse.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed through the Virginia Board of Nursing.
- Supervisory skills required; experience preferred.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred or ability to learn.
- CPR certified or able to obtain.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its integrity.
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and have good organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and handle medical emergency situations.
- Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.
