Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - PRN

About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Haven Behavioral Healthcare plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with mental health and substance abuse issues. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering compassionate, quality care.

Responsibilities

• Delivers quality nursing care to assigned patients, collecting data and identifying deviations from normal.
• Accurately and thoroughly documents all findings in the patient record and communicates pertinent assessment findings with other healthcare members.
• Implements nursing care interventions identified in the individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan, collaborating with other healthcare providers.
• Conducts specified bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and provides for comfort and assistance in the performance of ADLs.
• Promotes the patient's ability to cope, adapt, and solve situations related to illness and stressors.
• Provides supportive, age-appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions, documenting special needs.
• Administers medications safely and accurately, communicating medication doses and providing patient education.
• Ensures patients are effectively assessed before and after medication administration, and follows up on care responsibilities.
• Communicates incomplete assignments and patient needs with other disciplines to ensure continuity of care.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state of employment.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
• Must be able to work in high-stress environments and assess potential for patient escalation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate with culturally diverse and special needs populations.
• Understanding and sensitivity to serve a chronically mentally ill, geriatric, CD, and other patient populations.
• Ability to think critically and apply concepts for continuous improvement of patient care.
• Self-confidence and ability to lead and direct others.
• Successfully completed CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

• Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs populations.
• Understanding and sensitivity to serve chronically mentally ill, geriatric, CD, and other patient populations.
• Knowledge of normal physical and emotional development.
• Ability to cope mentally and physically in high-paced and stressful environments.

Work Environment

This position can be high-paced and stressful, requiring spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
