Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Med/Surg

About the role

The Department 34402 Atrium Health University City - Nursing Med Surg: 5th Floor is seeking a part-time, benefits-eligible position with potential weekend shifts. The role offers a pay range of $25.30 - $37.95 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care according to established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• Aids in assessment by collecting and documenting data, actions, and responses, including biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.
• Detects significant changes in patient condition and promptly reports these to the registered nurse.
• Collaborates in developing the plan of care and implements it as directed by the registered nurse.
• Supports and reinforces patient teaching according to the individualized plan of care.
• Documents nursing interventions and patient responses, communicating the effectiveness of interventions and changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
• Performs clinical tasks such as medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, venipuncture, etc.
• Carries out various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling, while using proper technique.
• Communicates changes in medical orders to the registered nurse.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association within 6 months, unless the department leader determines it is not required.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state where the team member practices.
• Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
• No prior experience required.

Qualifications

• Proficient in computer skills, including keyboarding, navigating Windows operating system, using electronic mail, and electronic medical records systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of patients, families, staff, and physicians.
• Good organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multitask and handle frequent interruptions.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Able to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., carry up to 40 lbs., lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Must have functional vision, speech, and hearing.
• May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
