About the role

Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital is looking for a dynamic Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The LPN is accountable for assigned nursing care activities on a shift basis and is responsible for promoting and enhancing nursing practice on the unit, including the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and activities of daily living. Shifts available: PM (3 pm – 11:30 pm).

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care on a designated unit consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Hartgrove Behavioral Hospital.
  • Promote a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Deliver crisis intervention and support activities of daily living.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of a licensed practical nursing program.
  • Experience: One-year prior experience in inpatient psychiatric mental health nursing preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Illinois; BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge: General and psychiatric nursing processes, therapeutic relationships, age-specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management, and CPR training.
  • Supervision Received: Charge Nurse, Head Nurse, Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing.
  • Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent or aggressive behavior; potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids, and other hazardous waste in a general hospital environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; physical agility to manage patients with crisis prevention interventions; push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds; intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
