About the Role

Baptist Health Urgent Care is seeking dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our team in Fort Smith, AR. The LPN will greet patients, activate patient files, and provide support to patients and medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and prepare them for examination or procedure.
  • Record health history of patient and note abnormal conditions for physician.
  • Instruct patients on collection of any necessary samples and tests.
  • Obtain vital signs and escort patients to rooms.
  • Assist with the preparation of supplies and equipment and aid the physician or mid-level practitioner during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Administer injections and prescribed medications as directed by physician and in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Observe, record, and report patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Ensure patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner; forward charts as appropriate.
  • Maintain patient files, records, and other information.
  • Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments.
  • Arrange referrals to specialists and obtain pre-authorizations when directed by the provider.
  • Collect, document, and deliver lab specimens and obtain lab test results and other reports.
  • Notify patients of test results and follow-up appointments.
  • Clean and restock exam/treatment rooms between procedures.
  • Follow clinic policies for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious/hazardous waste materials.
  • Instruct patients and families regarding medications, treatment, and discharge instructions.
  • Assist the provider with physical exams and in preparing for physicals.
  • Contact pharmacy to order prescriptions and notify patients.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of medications and monitor controlled substances.
  • Control inventory and monitor the use of supplies.
  • Maintain up-to-date stock and monitor and maintain medical equipment.
  • Respond to and screen telephone calls for referral to nurse or physician.
  • Triage patients to ensure productive departmental flow.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a hospital or clinic setting is preferred.
  • Must be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with state regulations.

Schedule

Full-time team members work a rotating 36-40 hour/week schedule, consisting of 12-hour weekday shifts and every-other weekend. PRN (per diem) team members are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
