Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under RN/physician supervision
- Take and record vital signs
- Auxiliary patient hygiene, mobility, and daily living needs
- Maintain patient condition and report changes promptly
- Perform wound care and dressing changes (within LPN scope)
- Administer medications as permitted by state law and VA policy
- Auxiliary treatments and procedures as directed
- Accurately document care in the VA electronic health record
- Maintain timely and complete patient records
- Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
- Follow all VA policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
- Support inpatient and outpatient units experiencing staffing shortages
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment
- Follow infection control and patient safety standards
- Respond to emergencies within scope of practice
- Provide customer-service-oriented care to Veterans and families
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
- Has been actively practicing as an LPN for at least two years within the past three years
- Is capable of providing nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients
- Has and maintains current AHA BLS certification
- No health or physical disability restrictions that interfere with the performance of assigned duties
- Has documented training and skills verification
