Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Clinic FT

About the role

Washington Gastroenterology is seeking a Full Time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our medical clinic. The LPN provides direct patient care in the Clinical setting, in accordance with physician’s orders, recognized nursing techniques, and legal aspects of current nurse practice within Washington State and the Center’s policies and procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse works as a team member under the supervision of an RN (Registered Nurse), ARNP, PA, or Physician.

Responsibilities

• Take triage calls from patients with concerns or complaints to intake and relay pertinent medical information regarding the patient and their symptoms to the Provider.
• Room and prepare the patient for exam by gathering patient vitals including weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respirations.
• Update and document patient's current medications, problem list, allergies, and health history, and relevant problems and/or complaints in the patient medical record.
• Provide instruction, education, and direction to patients on routine medical questions, procedures, and ordered tests.
• Assist patients with prescription refill requests within Washington Gastroenterology policy.
• Manage nursing in-box requests and maintain the sample medication supplies and the patient care supply inventory.
• Support administrative functions of the medical office by assisting the administrative staff when needed.
• Obtain insurance authorization for necessary medications prescribed by Washington Gastroenterology providers.
• Schedule patient procedure, lab, and x-ray appointments, as well as follow-up visits for the patient. Ensure the patient is scheduled at the appropriate facility, that the patient is aware, and that the information is documented in the medical record.
• Interact with and act as liaison with other offices, hospitals, pharmacies, etc.
• Perform phlebotomy tasks taking samples as directed.
• Obtain pre-procedure medical clearance from outside providers for patients with cardiac and other high-risk modalities.
• Document all patient care encounters accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
• Maintain exam rooms, cleansing between patients and restocking as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
• Graduate of an accredited LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) nursing program.
• Current LPN license to practice professional nursing in the state of Washington.
• Current BLS certification.
• Previous clinical, hospital, or gastroenterology nursing experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a medical office setting with a working knowledge of medical terminology and office protocol preferred.

Physical Activities and Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Prolonged periods of sitting/stationary work and performing administrative duties including the use of computers and phones.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and kneel occasionally.
• Ability to assist patients supporting weight, assisting in positioning of patients, etc.
• Ability to grasp small objects and manipulate medical instruments.
• Ability to reach including reaching overhead and below waist.
• Ability to lift 10 pounds frequently, occasional lifting 25 pounds.
• Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds.
• Occasional travel may be required to other local locations on an as-needed basis to back-fill for vacations, etc.

Pay

This is an hourly position with an anticipated compensation range of $28.00 - $36.00 per hour. The hired applicant is also eligible for annual discretionary bonuses.
