Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Role Summary
Support the health, safety, and well-being of students by providing direct nursing care, administering treatments and medications, monitoring health conditions, and assisting with the implementation of individualized health plans.
Core Responsibilities
Perform treatments and procedures such as (but not limited to) soaks, recording vital signs and weight, medication administration, accompanying students on trips.
Screen students for illnesses, including height, weight, scoliosis, vision, hearing. Administer first aid as needed using School Health Services medical policies.
Communicate appropriately with School Nurse, school personnel and parents. Carry out medical providers' orders as required.
Aid in the implementation of Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs). Support medical accommodations in IEPs and Section 504 Plans.
Maintain confidential student health records in compliance with FERPA/HIPAA. Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Reinforce universal precautions and infection control practices. Administer medications at other locations as needed under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse.
Prepare and administer medications as ordered, documenting administration and reactions. Assist with health-related aspects of behavioral intervention plans.
Provide support during medical or behavioral crises in coordination with staff. Participate in de-escalation and safety protocols (if applicable, TCI-S aligned).
Maintain accurate and timely student health documentation and logs. Report communicable diseases and concerns per NYS Department of Health and Education guidelines.
Assist with incident documentation related to student health events. Participate in building-level emergency response plans.
Job Qualifications
Civil Service eligibility in Ontario County as a Licensed Practical Nurse: Possession of a valid New York State Registered Professional Nursing (RN) license or valid New York State Licensed Professional Nursing (LPN) license.
Must have one year's experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Ability to work with students with disabilities and/or medically fragile students.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Have working knowledge of school health care regulations.
AED/CPR Certification required; must renew with Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES.
