Licensed Practical Nurse - LPN

About the Role

Provide direct patient care and professional insight as part of the hemodialysis health care team under the supervision of a registered nurse. Support Fresenius Medical Care North America's mission by delivering safe and effective dialysis therapy, promoting patient well-being, and contributing to a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients, adhering to the current treatment plan or supervisor directives.
• Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters, patient conditions, and any significant changes or equipment issues.
• Administer intravenous medication in accordance with physician orders and state nurse practice laws.
• Perform pre, interim, and post-treatment reviews of patient condition and initiate basic CPR measures in emergencies.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot dialysis-related equipment, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
• Address blood spills immediately according to FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
• Participate in staff meetings, patient care plan meetings, and in-service training to stay current with dialysis practices.
• Act as a resource for other staff members and assist in coordinating care plans with physicians, dietitians, and social workers.
• Promote and maintain outstanding customer service for all internal and external customers through timely communication and issue resolution.
• Assist in educating patients and families about end-stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN).
• Current appropriate State licensure.
• One year of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred; hemodialysis or ICU experience is a plus but not required.
• Successful completion of a training course in hemodialysis theory and practice, CPR Certification, and the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire.
• Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during short-staffing or as required.
• Must pass Ishihara’s Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

• Collaboration with healthcare teams, including physicians, dietitians, and social workers.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Regular interaction with patients, staff, and physicians, involving desk work and computer use.
• Direct patient care requiring heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation; coworkers or equipment aids may assist.
• Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and bending over.
• Occasional moving of machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance, and lifting chemical water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet.
• Travel between assigned facilities and within the community; may include regional, business unit, or corporate meetings.
• Work environment includes air temperature control and moderate noise levels; potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $22.00 - $35.00, depending on work location, qualifications, education, work experience, skills, and competencies.
