Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises nursing assistants to ensure high-quality care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Key responsibilities include planning and overseeing daily nursing activities, administering medications, completing required documentation, and maintaining patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee daily nursing activities
  • Administer medications as ordered by the physician
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis
  • Receive and give the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours
  • Assist in all aspects of a resident’s daily life, including activities of daily living, meal service, and social engagement
  • Appropriately communicate with clinical leadership when a resident’s needs change
  • Know how to approach and care for residents with dementia
  • Willing to take on other duties and assignments within the scope of your knowledge and experience

Qualifications

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current unencumbered state license
  • Knowledgeable of nursing & medical practices & procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
  • Experience in Long Term Care is preferred
  • Willing to take additional training or education, which specific states may require
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable while handling multiple priorities
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication
  • Competent in organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Physical Demands

  • Required to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the workday
  • Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • May include health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical & physical examination
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
