Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises nursing assistants to ensure high-quality care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Key responsibilities include planning and overseeing daily nursing activities, administering medications, completing required documentation, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee daily nursing activities
- Administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis
- Receive and give the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours
- Assist in all aspects of a resident’s daily life, including activities of daily living, meal service, and social engagement
- Appropriately communicate with clinical leadership when a resident’s needs change
- Know how to approach and care for residents with dementia
- Willing to take on other duties and assignments within the scope of your knowledge and experience
Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current unencumbered state license
- Knowledgeable of nursing & medical practices & procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
- Experience in Long Term Care is preferred
- Willing to take additional training or education, which specific states may require
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable while handling multiple priorities
- Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication
- Competent in organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Physical Demands
- Required to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the workday
- Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- May include health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical & physical examination
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
- Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
