Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor nursing staff to obtain highest quality care by performing routine nursing duties.
- Accountable to Director of Wellness/Executive Director for all nursing department activities and maintaining the corporate philosophy of quality care.
- Supervise Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and facility staff.
- Make daily rounds of all Assisted Living residents and retirement residents if needed.
- Observe and report symptoms and conditions of patients to Director of Wellness.
- Administer medications and treatments per signed doctor’s orders in an accurate, safe manner, observe effectiveness, and report to physician if needed.
- Inform Director of Wellness of when supplies and equipment are needed.
- Order medication from pharmacy when needed.
- Supervise Home Health Aides to ensure that all nursing care is given properly, safely, and of the utmost quality.
- Administer emergency first aid.
- Assure that daily assignments for patient care, incidental duties, performed by nurse and Home Health Aide are carried out.
- Document V/S, weights, nurse’s notes, medication, kardex, etc., and make daily rounds of all patients and area.
- Recognize, interpret, and report conditions to the Director of Wellness, Registered Nurse (RN), or Executive Director as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and neatness of nurse’s station, med room, and cart.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff.
- Complete admission and discharge evaluations as necessary.
- Check equipment for cleanliness and condition.
- Provide guidance for nursing assistants.
- Promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships with residents, visitors, and personnel.
- Perform related work as required per assignment.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program, currently licensed to practice per state.
- Work experience in the geriatric field.
- Ability to communicate well and in writing.
- Ability to deal with visitors, staff, and residents in a courteous manner.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 60lbs.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure at times.
- Must be able to perform good grooming practices, personal hygiene, and be punctual and regular in attendance.
- Must have a warm, friendly, congenial personality.
- Must present a professional appearance and possess an empathetic attitude towards seniors.
- Ability to assess a resident’s condition and intervene when needed.
- CPR certified, or obtained within 90 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
