CLINICAL DUTIES
- Affords assistance to providers during exams, minor procedures, and surgeries.
- Accurately takes and records vital signs, patient histories, medications, procedures, and instructions.
- Assists providers as a scribe when necessary.
- Administers CLIA waived lab tests and performs venipuncture for labs as required.
- Implements screenings such as visual and yearly wellness recommendations.
- Schedules patients with acute and urgent problems according to scheduling policies.
- Responds promptly and appropriately to changes in patient conditions based on provider orders.
- Identifies and reports significant variations in patient signs or symptoms to RN and/or provider.
- Documents patient care within the standards of practice, policies, procedures, and department protocols.
- Processes pre-certifications and makes referral appointments.
- Collects and delivers specimens from patients of all age groups using appropriate lab procedures and two patient identifiers.
- Investigates and addresses discrepancies in patient identification and specimen collection.
- Notifies supervisor and/or provider of any questions or concerns.
Clinical Support
- Prepares procedure room and cleans, sterilizes, and packages instruments and equipment for diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Maintains inventory of clinical supplies and checks expiration dates.
- Ensures cleanliness and equipment readiness in exam rooms, laboratories, and procedure rooms.
- Differentiates between emergent, urgent, and non-urgent patients.
- Observes and adheres to safety precautions for both patients and staff.
Patient Education
- Provides clear, accurate information and thorough instructions to patients under the supervision of RN and/or provider.
- Shares wellness information and educates patients on their disease management processes.
- Generates and distributes verbal and written education materials to patients under the supervision of an RN and/or provider.
Administrative Duties
- Aids supervisor with report completion as directed.
- Prioritizes work effectively and seeks guidance from supervisor as needed.
- Screens calls from home health agencies, nursing homes, and other healthcare providers.
- Collects and documents patient data over the telephone within clinical standards.
Education
- Attends nursing in-services, continuing education programs, and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- At least 6 months of nursing experience in a health care facility (such as a hospital, nursing home, medical clinic, prison, mental health facility, or closely related facilities).
